i've added "\n" instead of " " and it seems to trick it into displaying blank 
text.
patch descr. shows a possible related gtk+ bugzilla report.
perhaps there is a better solution.

please, ignore my patches from earlier today,
[PATCH] fixed a couple of typecast warnings in gtk-gui.c
[PATCH] [win32] set default locale to "English" in statistics.c

i've just combined them into [1/3..2/3..3/3] series against 
e810d211a6235b504c98604e0288cf22b12ec1b8.
