I guess, there should be a button in the dialog, "Don't ask me again",
which should store a blank nickname and only the deviceid.
The current "No" or "Cancel" button (i forgot) could make the the
dialog persistent i.e. it will ask again next time.

The edit of nicknames could be another dialog with a list of
[deviceid], [vendor], [model], [nickname] where [nickname] is an
editable field.
Deleting nicknames from such a list seems OK, but not sure if
convenient to allow adding nicknames by knowing a deviceid - might be
a bit "low-level" for the average user.
