I always forget which models activate automatically and which don't. There are 
too many to remember all, and I'm too lazy too look it up :-)

But that doesn't change the fact it's still a very common mistake. A high number 
of the troubleshooting reports I receive turns out to be user mistakes. 
Forgetting to install drivers for example. Linux is actually the most user 
friendly OS in this area, because all the typical usb-serial drivers are 
"installed" by default.
