i can't seen to reproduce the crash with the xml file.

since you can compile, a backtrace using gdb will be very useful:
gdb ./subsurface
> run
> [ reproduce the crash ]
> bt 20
[ copy the list ]

you also send your "default file" if that's not a problem, of course.
you can find its location in the "file->preferences." dialog. by default in:
/home/<user>/subsurface/<user>.xml

do you have a 64bit fedora ?
