the path retrieval is perfectly valid on windows.

i think i've noticed the same issue like henrik though, but it also
seems the file is not created on the first run:
Failed to read 'C:\Users\<username
here>\AppData\Roaming\Subsurface\<username here>.xml'.
at one point it created the file, but i did not notice exactly how.

i will debug later today.
