Oh, and this does NOT crash for me. Tried multiple times. Started with
autogroup on and off in preferences.

Do you have additional files in dives/* besides test0-24.xml?

What's the preference setting for you? Autogroup on?
Can you run this under gdb and tell me which dive it is trying to put in
the divelist when this happens?
