You're right - the existing code is really ugly.

But wouldn't it be nicer to just reuse the code that I already have
there for the tag filter? That uses a table layout... I haven't looked
into how easy it would be to call that from the edit widget, but it
seems like the cleaner solution (it's odd to have the ordering change
the two places we use those tags...)
