I much prefer INI too. I wonder why so many people hate it? Is it just
because it came from a DOS/windows background?

INI is a *much* better format than either XML or JSON. It's generally
much more human-readable and it actually tends to be much easier and
efficient to parse for machines too (no stupid recursive
state-machine!).
