The problem is there is no command line tool to go in the direction of
poedit. There is, however, an easy way for translators to fix their
files before committing them:

msgcat pofile > newpofile

will give you format consistent with what I create here and that will
make the diffs much smaller and easier to read. But that's a manual
step.

What I really want is a way to automatically create the format that
poedit creates - and I can't find a tool to do that easily. poedit
appears to always run interactively.
