Well, for reasons that I cannot quite understand, the subsurface shell wrapper was renamed to Subsurface after being signed. Which broke the signature. But oddly NOT when you manually validated it from the command line but ONLY when you tried to execute the bundle.

Please take a look at http://subsurface.hohndel.org/downloads/Subsurface-2.9.4.dmg

This should be fully functional and work out of the box on a 10.8 system (you do get the reasonable warning that this was downloaded from the internet, but it does not give you a security warning as unsigned…)

Even better, it should run fine regardless where it is installed. You can run it directly from the mounted DMG without pulling it onto Applications

As an added benefit (for those who haven't tried the earlier DMG) it has a pleasant background, the correct icon and the neat link to /Applications for easier installation. Almost like a real Mac app :-)

What an incredible amount of pain and wasted time this was…
