Note that you can still easily see the odd "no dive selected, but
statistics window shows dives" by just first selecting one single dive
(not dive trip), and then unselecting that same dive with
ctrl-mousebutton. You can see the statistics information still keep
the previous state (showing the statistics for the one dive that is no
longer actually selected).

But with selecting a dive trip no longer triggering this behavior,
it's way harder to do by mistake. You really have to *try* to deselect
all dives.
