Btw, if building binaries, notice that the dependency rules do not
make the source files depend on the Makefile.

Which means that the VERSION_STRING changes don't make it into the
About dialog unless gtk-gui.o is rebuilt by hand.

Btw, that's true for the git version number too, even if the makefile
doesn't change. So the about dialog often ends up with a possibly
quite stale version, unless building from a clean tree.
