I won't propose to build some magic code that tries to pick the version
best suited for the user - that is probably futile.
But what about just placing the following under the </video> tag:
<p>If you've got trouble playing the tutorial video within your
browser, you may look for alternative sizes, video formats and
download methods at <a
href="http://archive.org/details/SubsurfaceVideoTutorial">http://archive.org/details/SubsurfaceVideoTutorial</a>.
This way, users could try everything from "bit torrent download" to
(*shudder*) Flash-based player, and the related FAQs are also answered
on the archive.org/details page...
