i agree with linus.

1) the widget is not the most portable and also a bit badly designed,
in terms of requires libraries (which are a bunch).

2) i've examined the widget API and its pretty much in its infancy.
you are stuck with showing non-interactive red dots on the map.
therefore i find the implementation of a barely interactive widget
pointless. what is the point of showing 100 dots if none of them has
some sort of a tag?

3) google maps is my only proposal. integration with subsurface is
possible via web API (i.e opening a browser window).
also URLs can be then shared between users. maps can be added to
google accounts and so on.
