Looks good. Maintenance should now be a little easier ;)
Still, you may want to modify Makefile (on master):
-VERSION=3.0.2
+VERSION=3.1
too. Should be safe.
$ scripts/check-version -r 3.1
scripts/check-version: checking for version 3.1
scripts/check-version: 'Makefile' may need updating
Now, Sylvestre will only need to:
$(MAKE) V=1 ...
in debian/rules, instead of patching.
