I did just that.  Or partly, at least.  Here's a quick thingie that 
disables your MarbleDirs::setMarbleDataPath() and instead copies the 
files to ~/.local.  It's probably too intrusive right now, as it doesn't 
ask for permission to write the user's ~/.local directory.  Also, I 
don't know how this would work on Windows.
