Feature request - date handling in subsurface

On my machine the Ubuntu system settings are set to a date format of 
day-month-year. However, in subsurface, the American date format 
(month-day-year) is used for Starttime in the Dive Info tab, thus not 
obeying the OS settings. Is there any way to make this dependent on the 
preferences, so that when imperial units are chosen, the American system 
is used, otherwise a more friendly system of showing the date? The ideal 
solution would be to look at the OS settings and follow that format, but 
I expect that only in V4.x?
