>Thanks!  I amended the build instructions on http://marble.kde.org/sources.php to use -DQT_ONLY=TRUE, which worked.  But it seems that "make install" doesn't install the header files, so I have to figure out that out when building Subsurface.  Anyway, I'm heading out, so I'm done for today.
