building ss on Ubuntu 12.10

Thank you very much. This solved the dependencies. The software is up 
and running.

A quick note on the installation of ss V3.1.1 under Ubuntu 12.10 by 
specifying the subsurface ppa:
After adding
ppa:subsurface/subsurface
it appears as
ppa.launchpad.net/subsurface/subsurface/ubuntu quantal       on the 
relist of repositories.

If one starts to intall ss using the Ubuntu software centre, it shows  
ss V 1.2 only and it looks like 3.1.1 is not visible.
