IMHO, it is not reasonable to invest the effort to implement such a visual
editor as part of Subsurface, as it has to be extremely flexible to
satisfy everyone's needs.

The least common denominator of a layout editor that a relatively large
part of the audience is able to somehow work with IMHO is the classical
"word processing software", such as LibreOffice (or its inferior commercial
siblings).

Thus, I'd propose to provide an option to export .odg files according
to ISO/IEC 26300:2006 (see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDocument ),
and/or simple .csv files for import into spread-sheet applications.

(And yes, I did use TeX in the past, but that is ~20 years ago.)
