This is indeed a strange error. The fact that you get those two event lines 
means we were able to send/receive the initial version packet. But then it fails 
downloading the dives.

As you noticed, the cobalt backend doesn't log much. I have build a custom 
version with some extra logging enabled. Can you download this dll, place it 
into the subsurface installation directory (backup the existing one!), and then 
try to download with the "libdivecomputer logfile" enabled.
