I need to investigate a bit more what might break. Especially on Mac, there 
are some considerations due to the way that GCC and Clang are supported and 
the interaction with libc++.

If we do decide to go for this, we'll need to select a minimum GCC version 
too. Looking at supported distros for Subsurface 4.1, what would that be?
