Odd. Nothing jumps out to me from the crash report below.
I installed the 4.0.1 DMG from our Downloads page on a mac running
Mavericks just a couple of days ago and it worked without a problem.

A few simple questions (and the same goes to you as well, Robert):
can you send us the md5 of the DMG you installed, just to make sure it
isn't damaged?

md5 ~/Downloads/Subsurface-4.0.2.dmg
(or wherever you have the downloaded image)
MacBook-Pro-di-Alberto-Selvanetti:~ albertos$ md5 ~/Downloads/Subsurface-4.0.2.dmg
MD5 (/Users/albertos/Downloads/Subsurface-4.0.2.dmg) = 2d3c9e69e102cfa50b84d98c0409750a

can you also send the output of "uname -a"
(just making sure you Core 2 Duo is indeed running in 64bit mode as it
should)
uname -a
Darwin MacBook-Pro-di-Alberto-Selvanetti.local 13.0.0 Darwin Kernel Version 13.0.0: Thu Sep 19 22:22:27 PDT 2013; root:xnu-2422.1.72~6/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64
Hoping to have done as well as requested by you. However, 4.0 dmg is ok.
Alberto
