Yes, we are aware of issues with 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 on older 64bit Macs.
We are working feverishly to figure out a solution, I hope to have a
working 4.0.2 binary in the near future (from my testing last night I
think we are close).

We had two different volunteers talk about tackling that only to then
disappear again. So right now to the best of my knowledge no one is
actively working on an iPad / iPhone version.
