i have both 0.20.0 and 0.17.0:

picasso:~ admin$ port installed libgit2
The following ports are currently installed:
  libgit2 @0.17.0_0
  libgit2 @0.20.0_0 (active)

0.20 is the (latest) available version on macports.
0.17 is the previous one i could get with macports.

btw, trying to solve the issue with tomaz's help on irc.
