I would say the what is missing is two-fold:

1) In the “load images” stage that matches images to dives: As this matching is done based on time (dive computer clock vs exif tags based on camera clock) this only works if the two clocks agree on the time. This assumption is often not valid (because one is not proper set but also due to time zone problems) and one has to tell subsurface the difference between the time of the two clocks. This is either done by manually entering a time shift or by the image matching strategy in the dialog (taking a picture of the dive computer displaying the clock). So far you have to get this right as otherwise no images are mapped. It would help a lot if in the dialog there would be some feedback on the matching success based on the current settings (at lest the number of matches, ideally showing a list of matches like

image1.jpg at 3:50min of dive 101
image2.jpg at 5:45min of dive 101
image3.jpg at 10:19min of dive 102
etc

2) The way the images are displayed
Currently there is a small thumbnail in the profile for each picture. If you have several images for the dive they are potentially overlapping and one should be able to bring them to the front by clicking on them. Further it would be nice if they were zoomable upon click (or a separate window opening showing the image in full resolution with further info like time into the dive, depth at that time etc. Furthermore it would be nice to see all the images associated to a dive in a window (scrollable) at good resolution, again possibly with further info.

A separate issue would be to also show thumbnails on the map (possibly replacing the flag or in addition to the flag).

Note that for testing there is test31.xml that has a time to match wreck.jpg (with time shift set to 0) which is also in the repository. For some strange reason the image orientation is not taken into account.

Best
Robert
