Ah I see.
Actually I was thinking something completely different.
When you open the search bar and start filtering, you don't see/need
the profile graph because your view is not related to a particular
dive anymore.
When you double click/select one of the (filtered) dives, you return
to the classic view and the upper panel collapse.

In my mockup when you open the search panel you could (for a moment)
overlap the dive info panel and graph panel because a moment later (as
you start choosing tags or other keys) you will see a subset of
dives...
