This is not really for the translation itself (even if close sentences or sentences already translated from user interface can be reused using advanced translation tools such as lokalize and others), but it is really helpful for maintaining translation. I mean when sentences are modified, you catch them immediatly and you can see quickly what the changes are.

I sent an e-mail to po4a dev list and apparently, list items lost are due to our malformed asciidoc file. (Should be checked).

PO files can also help if a number of person are working on translation (on the same file) by using merging tools (msgmerge) to merge easily all the work done.
