just to point out that if you attach the patches in the email, it's
not a git pull-request. but AFAIK, pull-requests are not mandatory for
GSoC.

a pull-request means that you have a repository somewhere (e.g.
github) and you want to notify the maintainers to review the code and
pull:
http://git-scm.com/docs/git-request-pull
