It seems 'bad form' of me to patch this myself without testing a
BTSUPPORT-enabled build.  So until I get a build working with
BTSUPPORT (which i do no have immediate plans to do), I prefer to let
someone else address it.

To paraphrase a beloved error from tar: "cowardly refusing" to submit
a patch that i cannot currently execute myself.  Forgive the
cowardice!
