Can you be more specific? Which OS?

On Mac OS you simply move the Subsurface.app and this works
On Windows you need to build an installer
On Linux "make install" should do the right thing

The one thing that doesn't work and that isn't supported is to "move the
executable". You can either run from the build directory, or you can
install it.
