Neither, unfortunately. I had forgotten about this. But this patch should implement it.
One comment: Hashing a lot of images is of course very CPU consuming. What this does is that when a file is loaded (from xml or git) and it finds an image for which it does not know the hash, yet, it starts a background task to compute it (the hashes are saved upon quitting subsurface). This is not blocking but the user might notice an increase in CPU load. I decided that this should be better (it should happen only once in a lifetime per image file) than adding another thing to the UI where you can trigger this.
The result is that the divelist will be marked as changed even though the user did not to any explicit editing.
If you Dirk want me to take different choices here, please let me know.
