The local cache was quite borken. I nuked that and new sync from cloud
brought was not too slow. Got the progress bar and all. Now when I
open the cloud storage, it takes roughly 5 seconds. However, saving a
change in notes takes about a minute.

When looking at the web log, it loads reasonably fast. I'll try to do
