weird message

I just installed Subsurface v4.5.3 on a brand new Ubuntu and when
started it up for the first time, I got a weird window shown as
attachment. (After clicking OK I got another dialog asking whether I
want to check for updates automatically.)

The worst part about the experience as new install was, however, that
the units were Imperial by default.
