I am glad that other things work for you. As I said, pinching was the thing I tried since I am used to it (my main phone is a 6plus that I hold in my left hand while using the right thumb and pointer for touch interaction). 

Why not have more than one way? If you only use single ginger gestures ("digitally challenged" SCNR) this will never interfere with your usage while it is the way of minimal surprise for others. Giving pinching this semantic does not stop us from having a "back to divelist " entry in a menu.
