4.3 is ancient, but I'm not aware of intentionally breaking that. I don't think I have a 4.3 device anymore (I'll look in the drawers). It would really help if someone could connect to such a device in USB debug mode and run 

adb logcat -s Subsurface

and send us the output...

Started it and it crashed but I saw it was still in the running tasks so I pressed it again and it restarted and crashed again, output below:
