A colleague of mine ended up having to build a Linux VM to run Subsurface
in order to work around this Mac limitation. Apparently IRDA is difficult
to get working on recent distributions... when it was finally functional,
he commented that the VM in question would *never* get updated again.

No idea if a Windows VM would provide a smoother experience in this area.
