I have just purchased a FT Chipi-X10 USB-to-RS232 adaptor from RS
components. I wish to use it to connect a dive computer to Ubuntu 16.04.
I plug the USB side into the Linux machine, with or without being
connected on the RS232 side, I get the following diagnostics when
executing the dmesg instruction:

[ 57.024567] usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[ 57.136590] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
[ 57.352600] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
[ 57.568553] usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd

[ 57.896575] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
[ 58.112542] usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd
[ 58.112688] usb 3-2: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 58.316674] usb 3-2: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 58.520524] usb 3-2: device not accepting address 5, error -71
[ 58.632538] usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd
[ 58.632685] usb 3-2: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 58.836666] usb 3-2: Device not responding to setup address.
[ 59.040521] usb 3-2: device not accepting address 6, error -71
[ 59.040577] usb usb3-port2: unable to enumerate USB device

Do you have any suggestion on what the cause may be?

Kind regards,
