In planning it it required to consider the failure of a deco tank since
this affects the safety margin required from gases in some of the other
tanks. Therefore one would like to disable one of the tanks in the
Available Gases table. Currently one needs to delete the tank and then
enter all the information for that tank again to if one wishes to have that
information again for other steps in the planning process (at least, this
is what I have been doing).

What one wants is a facility to disable a tank with a special "Disabled"
icon in the place currently occupied by the dustbin. If the tank is
disabled, it is not considered in the dive calculations.

Of course, this implies one would have to have separate mechanisms for
disabling and for deleting a tank (single-click = enable/disable;
double-click = delete???)

Would this be considered as an improvement to the planner or am I using an
inefficient or inapplicable approach?

I consider that a useful improvement and worth implementing. But there is a
work-around to achieve the same thing: set the switch depth of the deco gas
to either deeper than the max depth of the dive (so you never switch to
it), or very shallow (0.1m, so it has negligible effect on the plan).
