Ios connection device

Hi,

now, that we learned classic bluetooth through Qt is not supported for iOS (and we already knew that USB based download will never be supported either), I believe that we should spend some more time to look into the download device that I have been talking about for a while (basically a small battery powered device like a Raspberry PI or C.H.I.P that is Linux based and connects to the dive computer via USB or BT and to the phone via wifi for which it provides an access point). It would run a headless version of Subsurface handle the download and provide the git repository to be merged via wifi.

Parts of this are already working and others I believe to be just a matter of investing a few more hours (and luckily, a few days ago “psil” appeared on IRC and announced he/she would look into this a bit.

But there is one thing where I still have problems imagining how things should work and I would like to ask the opinion of people understanding git better than me:

It is my impression that one cannot pull from a repository that does not share its root with the repository I am pulling to. To be more concrete, for our cloud format, the user’s repository is init’ed on the desktop than cloned to Dirk’s cloud server and then cloned to the phone. Am I correct that I would not merge that with a repository that was init’ed on the Pi but rather I would need to clone the phone’s repository to the connection device before downloading dives from the dive computer. Is this correct?

I would really appreciate a bit of help adding the functionality to the mobile version to clone the user’s repository to another server (possibly with a fixed address like subsurface-connection.local) and than later pull the changes from that server again (so far Dirk’s cloud server is pretty hard coded).

Best
Robert
