It's probably a similar problem with the "Show only display name for people in 
my address book" setting in thunderbird.

The From email header contains something like this:

     Dirk Hohndel via subsurface <subsurface at subsurface-divelog.org>

But in the address book I have an entry:

     subsurface mailinglist <subsurface at subsurface-divelog.org>

And now all the email on the mailinglist appear to be from "subsurface mailinglist":

So this indeed a client side issue. If disabled, it shows "Dirk Hohndel via 
subsurface", which is certainly better. But nevertheless it's annoying, because 
such a setting is actually very handy for normal emails (where not everyone 
fills in the name).
