No it cannot. It's an app with a very limited purpose - allow divers (for
example, on a dive boat) to collect GPS location that can then be merged
with the dive list in Subsurface and be used to have reasonably precise
GPS location information for your dive sites.

It's a version of Subsurface that is targeted at mobile devices with a new
UI written with phones and tablets in mind. It is in public beta test right
now, check here for an opt-in URL that will allow you to find it in the
 Google Play store:

As the post indicates - this is a beta release and has a number of known
bugs. Also, after releasing the beta we decided to make a few UI changes
so this is nowhere near what will be the first official release. Finally, even
though this is mentioned in several locations it seems to confuse some
new users: the current beta CANNOT download dive data from your dive
computer. You still need the desktop version of Subsurface for this.

Aurelien is one of our contributors and the main author of the companion
app which is why he posted it to the Google Play store. Since the new
Subsurface-mobile includes the functionality of the companion app, we
assume that this will be removed from the play store once the mobile
application has been released
