This appears to be by design. It was introduced in commit 
611bae344111845bfa8bd676c0fad49d1c051c10 (Jul 2014) and can be traced back to 
commit be9be189f7350cfb92899680907735719566631e (Jan 2013). It comes from the 
dive planner, where obviously you plan a dive in the future.
